Here are many of the questions our customers have asked in the past. If you don’t see a question you need answered, just give us a call!
Are Parent-Tot Classes Survival Swim Lessons?
Parent-Tot classes are NOT survival swim classes, which tend to be too rigorous for babies and toddlers in this age range. Instead, Parent-Tot classes focus on helping your tot become comfortable with submersion, floating, and other foundational skills that will allow them a smooth transition into learning to swim on their own at about 2 years old.
Can another adult get in the water with my child if I can’t attend the class?
Yes. As long as a responsible adult is there to help your child through the class, your baby can attend!
How long should my child be in Parent-Tot classes?
At a minimum, 4-6 months of Parent-Tot classes at an appropriate age (between 1-2) can give your baby enough preparation for Private lessons. However, many parents start their babies much sooner because of the mental benefits this type of exercise gives to young children.
How will I know when my child is ready for Private Lessons?
Your Parent-Tot instructor will recommend the best time for your child to start private lessons. This tends to be around 2 years old. If your child is currently over 2 years old and you haven’t taken lessons with SwimKids before, we recommend starting with a one-time assessment lesson to gauge private readiness.
How can I make-up a missed lesson or take extra lessons?
You have 30 days from the date you cancelled your lesson to schedule a Make-Up. To make up a missed lesson or take extra lessons; you can choose from our one time spots listed on our website. The list is updated at close each day for the next 3 days. We do not book make-ups more than 7 days in advance. If you see a lesson time that you want on our one-time spots calendar, call our office (the phones are on 24/7). Leave us a detailed message with the day and time you would like to book. We will call you back to confirm the spot and collect payment.
How do I cancel a Parent-Tot lesson spot?
Single lesson days and times can be cancelled by calling and notifying our office. Cancellation and Make-up policies apply. If you need to permanently cancel Parent-Tot lessons, a 4-lesson “Withdrawal Request” (found under Parent Resources) must be submitted. A request submitted with less than a 4-lesson notice will still be charged for the balance of lessons. Reducing lessons from two days per week to 1 day per week still requires submission of the “Withdrawal Request” for the day you wish to cease attending in the appropriate time frame.
According to Utah law, all children 3 and under, not yet toilet trained, or lacking bowel control are legally required to wear two layers of swim diapers in the pool. These diapers must fit snugly all the way around the waist and legs. At least one of these diapers must be a reusable swim diaper. Reusable diapers are available for purchase from our office.
We require that all beginners in private lessons take a minimum of 8 lessons (2 Months) to give them a basic comfort level in the water. Because learning to swim is a new experience, it can sometimes take students multiple lessons to adjust. Please allow for and expect this adjustment period.
